What is the largest park home in the UK?

If you want to live in a residential park home, there is actually a strict legal limit on how big you can go! Under the Caravan Sites Act 1968 (amended in 2006), the maximum legal dimensions for a twin-unit park home are 20 metres (65.6 feet) long, 6.8 metres (22.3 feet) wide, and an internal ceiling height of 3.05 metres (10 feet). If a manufacturer builds a home even one inch larger than this, it is legally classified as a permanent building rather than a mobile home.

Who is the oldest park home manufacturer in Europe?

That title belongs to Stately-Albion. Established in 1963 in South Wales, they hold the record as Europe’s oldest continuous manufacturer of park homes. They have been building homes for over 60 years and remain a family-owned business today.

How heavy is a modern park home?

Because modern homes are built to the residential BS 3632 standard, they are constructed much like traditional brick-and-mortar houses—complete with heavy steel chassis, residential-grade timber framing or Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), and fully tiled roofs. A large 50ft x 20ft fully furnished twin-unit can weigh upwards of 16 to 20 tonnes in total.

When was the first BS 3632 standard introduced?

The BSI (British Standards Institution) first published the BS 3632 standard in 1963. It was created to officially separate genuine residential homes designed for permanent, year-round living from temporary holiday caravans. The standard has seen major updates in 1989, 2005, 2015, and most recently in 2023.

How many parts make up a standard twin-unit home?

Despite looking like one solid structure, a standard twin-unit park home legally cannot be built in more than two separate halves. The two halves are manufactured separately in the factory, transported individually on two articulated lorries, and seamlessly bolted together on-site.

The UK residential park home housing market has an estimated asset value of approximately £13.5 billion.

Most Expensive Park Home Listed in the UK.

n 2018, a luxury twin-unit park home located at Salterns Marina in Sandbanks (Poole, Dorset) went on the market for an astonishing £500,000!

While the home itself was a beautifully finished modern build, the record-breaking price tag was largely driven by its exclusive postcode and panoramic views over Poole Harbour—proving that even in the park home world, location is absolutely everything.

Largest Residential Park Home Estate in the UK.

Kings Park Village on Canvey Island, Essex, holds the title of the largest permanent residential park in the UK.

Spanning over 70 acres, this sprawling over-50s estate is home to more than 800 park homes. It is so large that it functions as a self-contained town, complete with its own picturesque lake, supermarket, bar, and village hall!
