The History of Swift

From Humble Garage to Industry Titan

The Swift Group story began in 1964 when founder Ken Smith built his first touring caravan in a garage in East Yorkshire. From those humble origins, Swift grew exponentially over the decades, acquiring rival brands and expanding its Cottingham facility to become Europe's undisputed leader in the touring caravan and motorhome markets.

Entering the Park Home Arena

In 2004, Swift leveraged its forty years of massive manufacturing power, design expertise, and purchasing scale to officially launch Swift Holiday Homes. This marked a major strategic entry into the static caravan and lodge market. Rather than simply mimicking existing static designs, Swift brought a fresh perspective, applying the advanced engineering and aerodynamic techniques they had perfected in the touring sector to static builds.

High-Tech Construction and Luxury Lodges

Swift quickly established a strong foothold at the premium end of the market. They focused heavily on developing luxury, twin-unit lodges built strictly to the BS 3632 residential standard. Models like the Toronto, the Edmonton, and the Vendee became famous for their striking contemporary interiors, high-end domestic appliances, and exceptional thermal efficiency, making them highly sought-after for year-round park living.

A Family-Owned Powerhouse

Today, Swift remains proudly British and family-owned, operating from a state-of-the-art facility in Cottingham. They are uniquely positioned as one of the very few UK manufacturers to successfully operate across all three leisure sectors: touring caravans, motorhomes, and luxury park homes. Their continued investment in sustainable manufacturing and modern aesthetics ensures Swift remains a dominant force.
