The History of Atlas

Humble Beginnings in Hull

The Atlas story began in 1973 when the company set up its first manufacturing base in a disused fish warehouse in Hull, East Yorkshire. During the challenging economic climate of the 1970s, Atlas initially focused heavily on the export market before pivoting their attention back to the UK. They quickly gained a formidable reputation for their distinctive, forward-thinking designs, pushing the boundaries of what was expected from a standard static caravan.

Pioneering Domestic Comfort

At a time when holiday statics were often quite basic, Atlas championed domestic comfort. In the 1970s, their Zodiac range introduced dedicated family bunk beds and showers. By the 1990s and 2000s, Atlas was blurring the lines between standard statics and luxury lodges. Models like the Solitaire Super and the Oakwood Super introduced features that are now considered industry standards, such as pitched roofs, double glazing, free-standing seating, and fully integrated domestic kitchens.

A Legacy of Independence

Operating out of a massive facility on Wiltshire Road in Hull, Atlas employed hundreds of local craftsmen and remained a fiercely independent company through several management buyouts, most notably in 2019. Their commitment to hand-built quality and innovative, spacious open-plan interiors made them a highly visible and beloved brand on holiday and residential parks right across the country.

A New Chapter with the Rix Group

Despite a long and celebrated history, the post-pandemic market proved incredibly challenging, and Atlas Leisure Homes sadly entered administration in early 2025. However, a brand with such a rich heritage was too important to lose. In June 2025, the historic, family-run Rix Group—which also owns Victory Leisure Homes and Prestige Homeseeker—acquired the Atlas intellectual property and brand name. This vital acquisition ensured that the iconic Atlas legacy will continue to thrive for a new generation of park home owners.
